Hi,
I drove down to Tent Street today hoping to talk to someone about a car and it's all empty. Have they closed down or moved again?

So why is it closed if it's supposed to be a legitimate business? I thought Bernie Fineman gave up a plush job to start the Chop Shop thing up?

Hi Bernie,

I am very sorry to learn the Chop shop show has been un-plugged...

I hope you will return on our screens in one way or another.

Maybe even with an even more radical and/or cunning plan as we are so accustomed to.

Maybe a new idea for a new show, maybe even a special (one off show)

Let me sketch to you who I am and who my assosiates are.

My name is Sander Tel, 39 years of age, living in the Netherlands. I have all sort of passions, special/custom cars, planes, design, manufacturing in Epoxy/glass/carbon.
I work a lot with a industrial designer named Kees Radius, a slightly older chap (about 55 years of age) which tought me everything I need to know about making and finetuning shapes in epoxy/glass and foams.

Since some time we are planning/talking about doing up a 2CV chassis, which I have one in my mothers garden. We found some computer renderings by french students and we very much like the idea of re-doing the 2CV, respecting the essence of the 2CV: clever design, easy to drive and maintain, cheap, lightweight.
Also we like to add some extra's which the original designer omitted: fast, slicky, reliable.

Furthermore we like to forget the carbon emitting internal combustion engines and go electric, hydraulic suspension in good Citroën tradition.

Picture it:
an electric powered (hi tork, no gearbox, no clutch), redesigned/modernised Citroën 2CV build out of lightweight fiberglass/epoxy/foam/aluminium/Stainless steel (maybe) structures, thus fast, hi perofrmance, low cost, easy to maintain, relaiable, slighty more streamlined, fun to drive.

I understand you own a eco friendly car and I hope you share my vision on less poluting ways of personal transport.

You might wonder what you could do with teh idea.. As said, maybe you like the idea and maybe discovery does too, maybe the idea could be turned into a show like "a car is born..." multiple episodes in which the build and the (no doubt) funny situations are portrait.

Please let me know what you think, you can email me at theis adres: sandertel@radiusholland.nl

Best regards, Sander Tel.

Giz.... went all the way from Portugal on 14th of February 2009, to try and meet the crew, only to find out that the Chop Shop is closed.

And why's that? Since it is one of the most viewed shows here in Portugal.

Even my granny loves the cars these guys creat, 4 crying out loud!!!

Bernie, hope that somehow you and Leepu continue creating this mechanical pieces of art.

Well, i've took a picture though, standing in front of the Chop Shop grafitti in the closed garage door. If you want it mail me @: r.j.minas@gmail.com

Cheers!

It's one of the few shows about cars I like. It's really creative and it's an outrage that it's stopped. Do you still see Leepu? And why don't you try to continue without camera's around.
Cheers

Discovery has good shows but chop shop is one of the best in my opinion as its a fight to a finish i think that some one should do something and give a hand i would if i could the work these people do to meet the dead lines and the expert work what we all learn from. Its a very intresting and teach full show that sould be givin a primary role on discovery

Frowner

I can't believe chop shop's gone. I loved the show. Despite the bastardization of a 1970 Triumph, it was an awesome program.

I'm from the U.S., and they've just recently been showing the Season 1 episodes on HDTheater. So, the shop is out of business? Did the shop only exist for the purpose of the show? The show seems to be gaining some popularity here in the States, and it's sad that they won't keep this great show running. Anyways, anyone have any info about the shop and the status of Bernie and Leepu?

Hi El Sachmo,

Leepu is back in Bangladesh for a while, so the shop is closed for the time being, but he and Bernie are in close contact and still very much in business, so they may very well open up again in the future.
