I have been involved in electronics for 30 years, the presenter/producer failed to grasp the difference between voltage and current (it's 'o' level physics guys after all) and frequently referred to him being 'connected to the mains', in fact most of the time he was connected to a high voltage low current source of the 'line output tranformer' of a small screen tv set. You can light a 40 w flourescent tube by rubbing an ballon up and down your arm, no current is involved its ionisation, not current flow. By doing this with a tv lopt he has destroyed all the nerve endings in his finger tips that's why he cannot feel it! I have done this many times as a tv engineer. Back to school discovery channel and come back when you understand the subject matter not some sensationalist crap I would expect to find in 'the sun'. You also STATED that he was wired to 240 volts for 20 minutes, all the time you can see he is dabbing his fingers on and off the terminals thats how much it doesn't hurt him! You are just lowering the standard of your programs same as these freaks who refuse treatment due to their deformities giving them publicity they cant live without.

well done staffsguy i am also a qualified tv/electronics engineer and totally agree with you i was laughing my head of at this program and the so called physisist involed in this program. i`ll also bet the beamm current to the crt had been reduced. as for not being able to test the result all they need is beam cuurent meter also the air resistance when he creates his flame throwing arc is a facter the advisers for this program should ashamed and embarsed.my party piece used to be to light my cigerett of an arc from the old py88 in the line output stage in the old valve b/w tv it made your lips tingle a bit thats about it. if that bloke had grabbed hold of the anode cap and been grounded with normal beam curent flowing he would have dislocated his shoulder or be dead i saw it happen once when working for a monitor manufacturer whilst working in the development lab. what a siiy escuse of a program. topper
