Perhaps we could start some sort of online petition to the Powers that Be to bring back Discovery Kids. Not enough of a computer whiz kid to do it myself but it worked ok for Jamie Oliver and his School Dinners campaign. Anyone out there who is prepared to start it off.

Gilly, I've wandered onto this messageboard because I couldn't find much info on why Discovery Kids has been canned!! I take it you know more about the situation than I do. My lads are gutted, it was one of their fav channels. Luckily the video was recording Timeblazers for a couple of weeks and so they have at least one show to revisit! There was loads of quality programming on the channel; The Big Bang, Timeblazers, Steve Irwin, Scientrific, Mystery Hunters, etc, etc. I know the kids TV market seems saturated but DK offered something unique. I just can't understand the decision and it seems to have been replaced by Discovery Turbo. What's that??? Email me if you can and let me know who I might be able to email at Discovery because I can't find any email addresses to make my feelings know. A petition is a nice idea but I think people might struggle to find it (or even be aware that there is one). There a quite a few that are annoyed but don't know who to contact. Are/were you part of the production crew Gilly? You probably know far more than I do... the channel just disappeared from my TV without any notice!! We're still gutted!!!

Try this : Mail_Us@discovery-europe.com

.. my reply you can see below.. not sure what they refer to as 'robust choice'.. this was the only truly educational kids show on.. was only dissapointed that it finished at 6pm
Good luck.. and yes lets start a petition.

Dear Maria

Thank you for contacting Discovery Kids.

Given the robust amount of children?s programming available in the UK market, we made the decision to replace our part-time children?s channel with a new 24-hour channel that will appeal to a broader audience.

Animal Planet and Discovery Channel also offer a variety of high-quality programmes that are appropriate for family viewing and have a strong appeal for children including Meerkat Manor and Corwin?s Quest on Animal Planet and Mythbusters on Discovery Channel.
Kind Regards,
Discovery Networks Europe Viewer Relations Team

Hi

If you type in on the Google search engine, Discovery Kids on sky you will arrive at a forum powered by eve community (fourth one down I believe) There are a number of replies and one gives the email address for Discovery. You can also try www.ofcom.org.uk/static/tvlicensing but beware you can only use 250 words. I have complained here and at www.discoveryeurope. It is worth interesting to note that recently (Febuary 2007) the EMMY awards for childrens programmes US)listed 45 nominations and 15 of them were for Discovery Kids. Now what does that tell you about the programme which we don't already know. I also made the comment that the present Government introduced a scheme called "Every Child Matters" which is an educational one. I also mentioned that in my email. It is quite hard to find any comments on Discovery Kids complaints but if you do as I suggest at the top you will go straight to the forums and you can read other people's views. The more we publicise this the better. People Power!!!

Hi Iain,

Have contacted Discovery Europe, Ofcom tv licensing as per other messages. Also contacted Watchdog (don't know if it was the most appropriate as Discovery is a satellite channel) but thought it worthwhile. Amazingly in the Sky Kids magazine for March they actually give the channel number of Discovery Kids!!! Do you or anyone else know where DK is located. Perhaps a snail mail address. Maybe we should all start to bombard them as well. I have posted a message on the Discovery Communities forum asking people to email, write, phone anything and to pester. I don't have any connection with the programme but it is interesting that on another web site SkyDigi I believe it was called they give channels that have been taken off and also the ones reinstated so maybe there is hope. I also got the standard reply from Discovery the same as everyone else who has emailed. I shall be looking more on the Discovery Forums but will go back to Animal Planet as I too did not know initially where to look. Glad to see that the poll is up and working.

Lets hope we all get DK back soon.
