I'm not sure which episode of "Mekong: Soul of a River" I just watched, but it was about an artist who has chosen to use his artistic skills to help with wildlife conservation in Vietnam. In the episode, the team released a python and 2 water dragons near part of the Mekong River.

Did anybody watch this episode? I only caught part of it but I am amazed by the artist's talent and am actually wondering if it would be possible to contact and work with him. I would appreciate any information anyone could provide... if not, let's discuss the programme anyways! Smiler

I think I saw this episode, it was a man making beautiful drawings of animals. He had been living on that island during the vietnam-war, and there were tunnels under the ground if I'm not mistaken. Unfortunately I don't remember his name.

Hi, thanks!

As I mentioned I didn't watch the entire episode so I didn't hear about the war or tunnels bit; I did see many beautiful drawings and I remember he said he likes reptiles best because they have special skin, and one thing I specifically remember is that since most people are afraid of snakes, he hopes that his drawings of snakes will help people to see their beauty and appreciate them in spite of the danger they can pose.

Another beautiful thing I remember him saying is that he is happy doing conservation work in Vietnam, because he wants to educate people about the value of conserving Vietnam's natural life, "then they will protect it, because people always protect the things they value most" (almost exactly what the English subtitles said, I think) -- I thought that was a beautiful, poignant statement to make. Amazing.

I think they pronounced his name "Huang" and it was translated as "Huang" in the Mandarin subtitles, but I can't find anything on Google. Frowner Thanks for sharing though! Smiler

Hello, I was also taken by the beauty of his drawings. I've been trying to find him by searching on google without any luck. Maybe the Animal Planet team could help us out.

I don't know if the AP team reads this forum! Is there any way to contact them? I actually found the AP website difficult to navigate as it kept jumping back to the main Discovery website.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I have realised that "Huang" could be spent "Huong" in Vietnamese, not sure if there may be other permutations. Think we need his full name to search, as "Huong" is quite a common word in names, I think... wonder if we can find the video and/or info on the video anywhere, his name should be in the credits...
