Due to ilness i have been forced to stay in and watch tv,i love tv and especially documetaries,so naturally i got in the lucozade and settled down for a mammoth discovery session.
It all started really well... 1..American Chopper,I'm not a crotch rocket sort of person but i found the show really compelling, all the arguements and battles of wits, etc, which in the end gave a real insight into the creative process of design and economics to produce a beautiful end product! Great stuff i thought,ah what next...2...The Garage,A scottish bloke in Spain who runs his own garage called ENGLISH(what English) Mobile Mechanics, fair enough, marketing.Brilliant, what a show,a sweaty sock who reminds me of Alf Garnet and treats his staff like you would expect Romans to punish slaves,Very watchable...Next...3...Adverts for picture(a finance company)..Fat bloke with football, wife with camcorder, all while bloke has lovely conversation with Picture and hesding football while pulling funny face..Back of the net..Goal!..bloke even gets his mate in on the action for the sequel but part 3 is a bit of a letdown, they edited out the blood when geordie birds husband finds scooter in bathroom cabinet..away!..next..4..How its made(In Canada)Its nice to see a country actually making something,i didn't know they made balloons in montreal.I pondered on that one for a few days, then i realised i'd heard that voice before,The Garage!...5...Greenhill Finance,sublime....6...Chop shop.London Garage, wow.something actually made in the uk,two mavericks building custom cars which are setting the scene on fire, people are cueing round the block to buy these masterpieces,I want the beach car, just the thing to go down the pub and drive back home trying to outchase the birds that are after some.
So what have i DISCOVERED?..Simple..The discovery channel has fallen victim to true carcrash tv,cheap programmes which are sometimes years old, most with overdubbed voiceovers from the original American ones, which they think will be more palletable to the audience which,i think is %99 european. The only thing that changes are the fantastic segments in between progs and adverts which at the moment are people doing crazy things like racing ostrichs bareback and sawing branches off trees, which,i think are directed by up and coming new talent which hopefully one day will move up to shark documentaries. Its great to know that discovery is willing to take chances and employ new voiceover talent for the future.
