Was this program shown in U.K.? I hope so, because the U.S. website doesn't have space for comments;
Last night I watched a Discovery Channel program called “The Pig Bomb,” which was itself a bomb. It cleared up a lot of mysteries for me, such as how it’s possible to turn a non-story into a massive fraud along the lines of global warming through the media employing skilled writers, pictorials, and sinister music. The “Pig Bomb” was all about the explosion in wild hog populations, possibly due to mixed bread European or Russian hogs imported into the United States by unscrupulous sinister individuals, to creat massive dangerous beasts. The accounts of attacks by wild hogs on steroids (as in Hogzillas all over the place) made it appear that the four or five incidents of hunters suffering injuries while hunting wild hogs were the tip of the iceberg, and that the population explosion of wild hogs is going to destroy America, kill our children, hunting dogs, and those poor unsuspecting hunters. Can you imagine, America destroyed by wild hogs? Considering my 11 year old grandson recently killed two on his first wild hog hunt, I don’t think the odds are there. The hogs, including hogzillas, are outgunned. My first thought was to contact Discovery Channel and let them know what I thought. The website has no feedback or commentary section that I could find. So I’m going to tell you what I think about this, send it to everyone I know, and hope that somewhere down the pike this gets back to Discovery. We started importing pigs into this country as soon as we started tying our ships up to rocks on our eastern shores. We have always had a thing for barbecued pork. One thing that was discovered within a few years is that in some 12 or so generations, a feral hog will revert back to their wild European characteristics, smaller hams, larger shoulders, tusks, longer legs and the hair ridge on their back, along with an increase in size. Some wild European stock has also been imported. But, for some of us, this is not a bad thing, this is a really good thing, at least if you live in the country, and/or are a hog hunter. Consider if you will (Rod Sirling inspired), this is a great boon for those of us who like pork, and like to hunt. We’ve always had large hogs, and often dangerous hogs. Hunters who use dogs have always known the risk in hunting wild hogs with dogs, which have been slashed, gutted, or crippled while on hog hunts. It’s been that way since the first wild hog was hunted. Every once in a while, a hunter gets careless and gets slashed as well. There are hunters who hunt with the most primitive weapons, swords, spears, and knives, who are at risk, but of course that adds to the excitement of the hunt for those who hunt that way, that’s why they do it. This has been going on in this country for at least 400 years. If we do indeed have a population explosion of wild hogs, for country boys and wild hog hunters (and gourmands of the lean meaty beasts), this is a boon. This is great news, get my gun, get me out in the woods, it’s time to stock up on lean natural meat that has no equal in taste or health (as pork goes). Woo Hoo, I’m a going hunting. I’m too old to go hand to foot with a wild hog, but I can still shoot well enough to put one down at 50 to 300 yards. Next time I go to lake Okeechobee to hunt hogs, I’m going to try for another chance at the huge porker that had to be at least a 400 pounder, but he’s too smart to let me get closer than just beyond range. That doesn’t sound like a savage beast, does it? Now, for Discovery to produce a story like they did is beyond naïve, beyond ignorant, it was really stupid. Whoever put that show together either has never been out of some place like New York, or was desperate to come up with material to fill a spot and had no regard for truth or reality. Is this how global warming got started? Probably So. So, again, if anybody happens to have a way of passing this on to Discovery channel, please do so. |
