Why do have to put up with great programmes being ruined by the director/producer's dodgy sense of style.
I find programmes like "How Do they Do it?" (no, NOT how it's made) could be great fascinating programmes, but for me they are ruined by 'artistic' editing. Do we really need rapid cuts, extreme closeups and going in and out of focus all the time? These would be ok in a pop video but, for me, they have no place in a factual/education programme. 'How do they do it?' is only one example of this type of thing, but it's by no means the worst - I can still watch it - albeit I don't enjoy it as much as I would without the arty effects. -Kenny |

i too have had countless otherwise good documentaries ruined by split screen, manic camera work, but perhaps worst of all, nearly every documentary seemed to have a rock concert going on as well.
however recently things seem to have got better.i have just watched a couple of historical documentaries where the background music was limited and in context with the program, so it can be done. regards dougal |
