Me too!

My children miss the channel - and I have to confess that I do too!

How do we get it back?

I have joined just to find out what has happened to this channel too. It's my kid's favourite channel and they're really upset to find it not on.

Could we please have a proper explanation as to why this channel has been taken off air?

Yes I agree. My kids loved discovery kids, one of the most watched problems on Sky in this house!
Why has it gone and can we get it back please.

They've also merged Science & Wings and called them Turbo.Frowner

The answer is Discovery Turbo. This is Discovery Wings rebranded [seems to be all about cars ... yawn] BUT they've also put it on 24 hours where as Wings used to be on only part of the day. To get the rest of the hours to get it up to 24 hours they've culled Kids.

Hope I'm not the only one who feels a twinge of rightoues indignation rising in me at this. Or maybe its vomit? Here's an email from Discovery Kids posted on a different forum:

quote:
Thank you for contacting Discovery Kids.

Unfortunately, due to the large amount of children's programming available in the UK market, we made the decision to replace our part-time children's channel with a new
24-hour channel (Discovery Turbo) that will appeal to a broader audience. Fans of Discovery Kids can continue to enjoy their favourite programming for free on-line at www.animalplanet.co.uk

Animal Planet and Discovery Channel also offer a wide variety of high-quality programmes that are appropriate for family viewing and have a strong appeal for kids, including Meerkat Manor and Corwin's Quest on Animal Planet and Mythbusters on Discovery Channel.

Kind Regards,

Discovery Networks Europe Viewer Relations Team

It's all about money I'm afraid - which was one of things which actually made Discovery Kids so special (no ****ing toy adverts).

What to do? I really do believe the guys at Discovery don't realise what a success Kids really was, with Kids and Parents alike. So, swamp Discovery with complaints pointing out all the good stuff (quality kids-orientated science programms, no adverts) and anything else you can think of (e.g. strong brand awareness for children, loyalty from the parents). Wake the beggers up and get them to put it back on.

There's a "Contact us" thing at the bottom of the Discovery web pages, tho' beware you're only allowed to put in 250 words. Also, from http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/tvlicensing/cs/372.htm

Very annoyed 6 year old & his dad here!

"See your favourite programmes at discoverykids.co.uk......" Nope, Dr Dog, Megamutt, mysteryhunters, can't watch them online.

Rang Sky last night who gave us Discovery's phone number to ring on Monday.

I have a feeling advertsing revenue might be involved? But at the expense of the only kids channel that had a degree of education & mental stimulation on?

Mystery Hunters, Timeblazers, Gross, Sorted, Scienctriffic, megamutt, adi in space, adi under the sea , Scrap it Just a minute, the big bang to name just a few of the interesting educational programmes we have lost. What is the sense of getting rid of these very good programmes which are not available any where else for our children. These are the next generation of viewers. Diccovery Kids is alive and well in the USA + 24 hours a day what is happening to us?

Suggest everyone unhappy with the loss of Discovery kids E mails, writes and phones so that the bosses know how unpopular the decsion is. Email address was posted earlier and phone number is 0870 050 6939. Could they not compromise with shorter hours ie 7am-9am and 3pm to 6pm? At least then kids could watch out of school hours. Would guess the regulatory bodies would something to say about it esp as no other kids channel provides the same programmes.

Totally agree with all the above. We've lost the only channel that is actually really informative for our children! My 2 daughters have learn't so much & are devastated. My youngest loves Mystery Hunters & Croc Files, 2 that are not on the "Free Website"! I'm furious that all the channels that could be lost, it had to be the ONLY ONE that benefits our children. I'll also be ringing Discovery & complaining Monday, we should all bombard them to make them realise what a major mistake they've made!

Discovery Kids was a unique channel, and head and shoulders above so many of the other children's channels. My 10 year old is gutted, especially at the loss of The Big Bang which was his favorite show. It was the only show on TV to really satisfy his quest for scientfic knowledge, and he regularly made things based on the content of the show. At a time where Britain has a major shortage of Scientists and Engineers, this is a significant loss.

Please bring back discovery kids. Firstly most of the programs are not on the website and secondly it is much easier to watch on TV rather than a computer. This was the only science based program available to children in the UK and my 5 year old misses it greatly.
