Hello.
I was thinking the same thing,I thoroughly enjoyed watching Floating Kitchen and wanted to know if the restaurant was still there and what happened after the opening night. I did a little internet surfing and found Simon Woodhouse is now in this country,I believe from the website I was looking at, on a different boat in southampton, which I think he is renovating and that Water lily is still in France and he would one day like to bring her home.It was on a Yachting website, which has a formum like this, but I cant remeber what it was called, but I think it will come up if you search on Simons name. Hope this helps |

Hi, as the previous owner of the Water-Lily the last i heard she was moored in a marina outside Paris waiting for whatever Simon has in mind for her, maybe another series. the restuarant was only open for one night in Paris. I have not seen any of the series but having owned WL for 20 years I was obviously glad to see she has been bought some time. The boat still requires extensive rebuilding and the engine is a tribute to the engineering of the early diesels. Hopefully I will get to see the programme one day. Unfortunately, from what I have heard, to make "good TV" many facts were innacurate but never mind. Feelfree to ask me more about the boat if you are interested. Rgds, Andy

Hi Andy,
thanks for the update,I hope whereever she is she is being well cared for,it would be a shame, if after all she went through to get to Paris, she wasnt being appreciated somewhere. Andrea |

Come back Floyd, keep going Stein!
The Floating Kitchen was an idea, a scripted piece of TV fantasy, with real people trying to look spontaneous. It has resemblances to Flash gordon each episode (the breathless gushing voice-over wondering if our intrepid hero could get out of this hole... Look behind you Simon!) The premise was good, the geographical journey very doubtful and the continuity stank. Our hero, no offence to him at all, was magically invited to be in the right place at the right time week after week, and always succeeded. We learnt little about Simon, his cooking, France, or culture. John Burton Race appeared like a deus ex machina on cue. Wasn't he in a similar "reality" series last year when the cameras were always in the right spot, filming the mishaps from a perfect vantage point? What finally did it for me was the brandished permission to tie up on the Seine. The "client" was the film company (cost about 2000€) and the time period of permission was very limited (looked like one day). So it wasn't "real" at all. Was it educational - No. Was it entertaining - Not really. Who benefitted. Not the Parisiens for sure! Who am I? A francophile living in France, who loves the country and the food - and cooking it. |
