Hi! New to this site but you all seem to give good advice to each other so thought you's could help..
Im learning to tattoo and have been colouring myself in and (mainly) my dear husband for a while now... Everyone says you shouldnt practice on people until youre ready, but whens the right time to start?! The majority of tattoo artists taught themselves on their mates because apprenticeships are like gold dust and are especially like rocking horse dung as far as women are concerned!!! (I have lost count of the number of artists I have approached for advice/apprenticeships!) Surely I cant practice on pig skin for 10 years before I open a studio and tattooists offering paid jobs also require "live" experience..!!!
Vicious circle??!!!!!

Hey thats true, but do you watch the show ?
Cause if so you should look in to gettin an apprenticeshiplike Yoji got and take the time to learn and profect you skills by the pro artists you get the apprenticeship by, and then start on pigs skin for a while even though you have done it on you and your husband even though it might have been better to wait till your ready properly before you started on yu or you hunsband but then again I may be wrong on that little bit. its best to start off at the baseics in some cases for jobs like these. Look at how other artists got into the business aswell or ask ones you know and stuff.

Sorry if it didnt make much sence it did in my head as i was typeing it lol

Ye I totally agree with you, things are a lot stricter these days! I have approached all the tattooists in my area though, and even travelled further afield, but nobody wants to know! They dont believe women should be doing it so they just tell you your work is good then laugh in your face! Attitude has also changed when Ive told them Im married, which suggests they were thinking of someting else!!! Just sometimes wonder if there'll ever be a light at the end of the tunnel.. Frowner

Right I dont know the law that much even though my step dad iz a copper but still am pretty sure thats againest the law to be doing stuff like that.
And there should be some tattoo artist who needs or would like and apprentice, are the any "biggish" tattoo studio's anywhere around wherre you live casue that might be a little bit of the problem aswell casue if there pretty small there might not be enough room or someit.

But if all comes to worse and noone will take you and stuff try gettin a lience and everythin and show pple what you can do in a portfolie and wot you can do in person if you cud find sumone to let you try it and see how things go from there really ?
