Hi,

Should be getting my japanese half sleeve in July after my graduation.

I was reading somewhere that having the Hindi symbol the "OHM" below the waist was offensive.

As Japanese tattoos are largely derived from the Yakuza culture of Japan would my Japanese half sleeve cause any offence to a Japanese citizen, in Japan or anywhere.

P.S. I am a caucasian secular Christian so in no way related to the Japanese culture (other than that I love Sushi!). This is the reason for my question.

Cheers Amigos!!

I recently had a house party where I had a Japanese friend and one of my friends who has a full Japanese sleeve. Needless to say, my Japanese friend was fascinated but he wasn't offended, even when my tattoed friend invited him to stay with is family in Nagoya!! What he did say was Japanese people still associate tattoes with Yakuza and in some places in Japan you will be refused entry if your tattoo is visible. However, in Tokyo, there is a growing number of Japanese youths getting tattoos and it is a much more liberal place, but I would recommend, if you go to Japan, to make sure you have the ability to cover up if needs be. But unless you have some Japanese profanity on your, I think you'll be okay Smiler

Hello,

If there is any kanji (Japanese/Chinese characters) involved, make sure you check out what the word really mean with someone who knows the language.

Mandarin being my first language, I've seen quite a lot of silly chinese character tattoos due to mistaken meanings....
