quote:The U.S. in turn, responded with the F-14 Tomcat, patrolling the skies at more than twice the speed of sound.
-------------------- Speed F-14 Tomcat M=1.88 (1990km/h) is equal that in any way does not correspond to this expression. Why Discovery all the time tell lie ? And. For three years of war in Korea pilots-internationalists 64 ИАК (fighter the aviation case) have lead 1872 air fights, have brought down 1106 planes of the American manufacturing, from them 650 F-86 "Sabre". Loss of Instants have made 335 planes. And in any way you claim in one of the transfers that according to the American statistics, 954 Soviet, Chinese and North-Korean planes, including 827 MiG - 15 have been brought down. Loss of the Air Forces of the USA .... 138 planes (it's bul****!!). Still loss of five vehicles was declared with fleet and sea infantry. It is lie. Why Discovery all the time tell lie ?

I partly agree with you about Wings sometimes getting it wrong. We all do. If I can add my six pennyworth about the notional patrolling at Mach 2 - impractical to do this as they would soon be out of fuel! Only the new generation of planes like Typhoon and the F22 can do 'supercruise'. But even they probably would not unless absolutely necessary.
Interesting stats about kill ratios there. I doubt anyone knows absolutely factual statistics of both sides' combat kills in the Korean War.

Agree about inaccuracies.I find Seawings and Flying Through Time particularly irritating in this respect. Counterbalanced by other documentaries though, which are good (ones in which relevant documentary makers actually interviewed relevant people like engineers or aircrew, rather than rely entirely on stock footage). One particular example was a Seawings about the Super Etendard. Went off on prolonged irrelevant tangents about the combat record of the Sea Harrier and the Mirage III in the Falklands War ,and about what Marcel Dassault did during the Second World War with the French resistance rather than focssing on the plane!!

This evening i saw on Discovery Chanel a top of airplanes and in this documentary thei sad that Anthony Fokker discover that a machine-gun could fire among the propeller. But is fals!!! The one who discover that thing was a romanian named Henri Coanda , the same who made the firs jet plane in 1910!
