something thats always puzzled me, and as there seems to be a few flight fans here---
thousands of our bombers were lost in ww2 for want of a long range fighter escort (prior to the p 51) but yet the spitfire was undertaking reconnisance flights of many hours during the early years.

ps. given the shortcomings of our own tanks ,i wonder if there were ever any plans to produce the supberb T34 in the uk during ww2
regards

d

Yeh, but remmeber they also got into dog fights along the way, using up a large amount of fuel as the need to dive and climb and also double your distance by chasing an enemy aircraft, in recon you can cruise on a set flight path, hopefully without it going to peices due to enemy enocounters from fighters or AA positions.

Oh and about the tanks, i dont think there was a plan we did produce the T34. Tho new tanks were produced just at the end of the war it was just to late for it to have an effect. I have forgotten the name of this new British tank, but it was paraded infront of Joseph Stalin. Dought it would of impressed him tho.
