hi all what is the point of having a dedicated channel for all us aircraft enthusiasts when for 2 hours a nite all we get to see are programmes on cars or steam trains or some other non flight related rubbish it frustrates me even more is that wings is only on between 6 pm. and 9 pm at night then repeats until the early hours of the morning..... am i alone on this matter??

Rather than sit here whinging lets put together some ideas for programmes. Perhaps they will commission them.

How about a team challenge to build a plane to cross the English Channel for less than £1000

or visiting the factories where they make small planes. We know boeing is impressive but what does the Cessna production line look like.

Or recreating the great pioneering flights.

or detailed explanation of how Air traffic control works, not just the we see blips on the screen but how the system is put together.

or how a gyroscope works.

Or a series on the pioneers. Not "just they were brothers" and built a plane but how they got interested, their characters and what other things they did. the Wright brothers, Bleriot, howard Hughes, Sikorsky etc.

That’s not very constructive, if you don’t tell them about your complaints how are they to know you’re dissatisfied? All the suggestions Sea Spaniel’s made sound really good.

I for one would love to know about gyroscopes, Bleriot, Howard Hughes, Sikorsky etc.

By the way, what’s that elastic stuff that shoots planes of aircraft carriers called and what’s it made off, I’d like some of that, I’ve got an idea for a programme...would I be able to buy it on EBay?...

I have e-mailed Discovery many a time regarding this and they have never given me a satisfactory reason as to why they show non-aviation programmes. I even contacted Ofcom, but they didn't do a single thing. Declaring that a channel is dedicated to a single theme when it clearly is not must be false advertising. But, with the regulatory bodies being as relaxed as they are, it is no wonder they get away with it.

About the only options left are to have a mass e-mail campaign or a petition. Would any of you be interested?
