Hey Guys
Well exams are finally over!!!! which means I ffinally have a few days off before starting work so whought I would drop in and catch up with everyone.
Apologies I've not spoken to many people recently but life has been mental, i've either been workin then doin revision an weriting assignments or been in lectures and the writing assignments. My firs year of uni is nearly over (just up here for another week till the summer ball), I cant believe how fast it has gone.
I've had mixed experiences but I would like to fill you in on some of the best ones that I had in work.
I've progressed a fair bit in how much I can care for the animals now. Obviously we've had a few sad cases that have had intensive care but not made it but we've also had a few ones that have made it an they're the best and the ones I want to share with you.
One of the best recoveries was that we had a cat in called spook that had had his thyroids removed and had developed a calcium defficiency. This cased a major problem and made him very weak and unwilling to eat or anything. He was in for a while with us while we gave him calcium and then he stared going home but coming in every other day or so for calcium which brought his blood calcium level back up to normal but his body wasnt maintaining it. This went on for a while and wasn't looking good which was sad for us all as we had all got to know spook very well. Luckily one day we took a blood sample and it was in the low end of normal, this continued and spook recovered hapily. Sending home a happy healthy animal that you have hand fed due to illness is a brilliant feeling.
The best experience though was we had a bitch in that was having difficulty given birth (not suprising as she was a bull dog). She had had 2 pups already but was having difficulty with the rest. The vet decided to give her an injection which would help her have them naturally rather then operate straight away. I got put in charge of looking after mum and monitoing her for pups. After a while it was looking like surgery but then she started straining and a little pup appeared. It was incredible to see mum bonding with the pup, licking it clean. Eventually we had to move the pup into an incubator as the mum started straining again and was ignorin the pup. One of the pups was in the wrong position so had to have vet help but it was fine. Another pup was having breathing difficulty so i had to try and help by resussitationg it and clearing air ways but it was still having difficulty so we gave it a drug to help it breath and then put in on oxygen. Once she had 3 pups we decided to start them feeding one at a time but I had to help them find the teet. By the time I left there were 4 pups plus the 2 she had earlier which were with the owners and the one that had breathing difficulty was fine. The next day I found out she had had another 2. One died unfortunately but the others went home with mum happy and healthy.
Hows everyone else??
