Crikey! Now Bindi wins an Emmy
BINDI Irwin has added an Emmy Award to her collection of accolades, beating Sesame Street's Elmo at an awards celebration on Friday. The nine-year-old won the Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series award at the Daytime Emmy Awards celebration in Los Angeles. The win - for her role in the ABC TV series Bindi: The Jungle Girl - comes soon after Bindi was named Best New Female Talent at the 50th TV Week Logie Awards. "I am so excited. It's really great that my show Bindi: The Jungle Girl has taken off so well in the US after being on air for only nine months - that's amazing," Bindi said. "Most of the shows we are competing with have been around for a many years. "I am the luckiest kid in the world. "I live in a zoo and get to teach other kids about animals in a fun way. What more could you want?" Bindi's anti-whaling song, Save Me, received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Original Song. "I really love whales and we should do our best to protect them. Save Me is all about how precious these beautiful animals are," she said. Bindi will celebrate her 10th birthday with a party at Australia Zoo on July 24. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23866471-2862,00.html |
