http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,21287388-2,00.html?from=public_rss

For those of you who are familar with Wyland and his foundation for the conservation and preservation of Whales, and other sea life, you have probably already seen some of his art. I have been familar with his work for years, and I never cease to be amazed by it. This link will take you to an amazing aray of the pictures he has painted on bulidings, and info on his foundation. Hope you enjoy it! Please take a look at the education and research that is done by his foundation. Click on a photo to enlarge. I have seen the one's in California in person. They are amazing.

Hi Crytalslove.

From where you are staying
The one in Hollywood is 15 miles away
Laguana Nigel is 22 miles
Santa Monica is 30 miles
San Diego is 120 miles
and there is one in Long Beach that is about 17 miles.

If you can see at least one of these, it will be worth the drive. The pictures are awesome. But seeing them in person is unbelievable.
I can't wait to see the one with Steve on a 4 story building. One of my Engineers who is from California, has been friends with Wyland for several years. I am going to ask if he can get a Photo for us after it is done.

Thanks Shanon. Our days are pretty packed I wouldnt know how to get there. But I may ask our bus drivers how to get there. I will print this. There is one day that the kids get to go to Disney's recording studio and I dont know what the chaperones will be doing! Would your friend get the print for our site?

Am I where near Sea World? I wish it was on our trip. I think the kids would like that. We have 2 days at theme parks. Disneyland, and then a place called California Dreamland? or Adventure? then the beach one day. I think the kids play Disneyland 2 days.

California Adventure opened 4 years after I moved here. It is next to Disneyland. My daughter said it is really fantastic. Sea World is in San Diego (120 miles south of where you will be).

Here is a link to the Californina Adventure Park
It all looks like a lot of fun, especially the Paradise Pier

Ok I will find that out for you. I have been looking at the California Adventure and as cool as it looks I think I'd rather go to the beach. Even over Disneyland...I was going to get a fancy camera but have had a history of miss placing them (actually losing them.) So I will get some disposeable ones and take my pics that way. One of band kids takes really good pics, and he's on the saxline so I get copies alot! What kind of whales are they if we are there at the right time? how close can I get? I would be so blessed to see one! will there be seals? or does that matter the beach we go to too? I wish eveyrone here could join me to see the whales.
What does the Ocean do to gemstones?

Here is a clip for you to enjoy that will answer some of your questions
If you go to the Santa Monica Pier or the Newport Beach Pier, you can take the stairs down to a platform below the upper pier, and the Seals come up because they are used to being fed fish, or stealing from the fisherman on the pier. When I lived there, we used to go out to Balboa Pennisula and watch the Whales Migrate. We saw alot of Dolphins from there also. Oh and about wearing jewlery at the beach. Best to leave it in a safe place. Hopefully you will be wearing a good sun screen, which can loosen your rings. If you spend a lot of time in the water, since it is salt water, it will draw the oils out of your skin, causing the skin on your hands to skrink. Many a wedding ring. class ring etc. have been lost by people swimming for a long time. The stones you do not want to expose to any water especially salt are: pearls, onyx, turquoise(none of the porous stones in Native American Indian Jewlery),opals.

Shanon thank you SSSSOOOO much for this!!I wish you could come and be our tour guide. (wink wink) and Catbus you dont have to play an instrument, just come and be a chaperone!! Your son would love it!! I told my kids that Disneyland and California Adventure look fun, (maybe something to do at night) but I'd rather go to the beach the whole time...I hope I dont get into any trouble with jelly fish.(does that sound gripy?) anyway I know what Steve would choose! I'd LOVE to go on that Captian Dave's sea adventure!

Not at all gripy. The Jellyfish stay out in the deep water, should you see any on the beach, they died and the current brought them in. Now this is what I always loved to do when I lived there. It is an awesome sight. Wish we were all going with you!

Its going ok...I am dealing with a very bad clogged kitchen sink, but I am getting there. I have to take various breaks, as Meru is demanding attention over the sink!
