Who are you calling fish face? The baby ray causing ripples in the marine world with its alien-like smile

With its odd smile and translucent body this creature could be mistaken for a young cousin of one of Doctor Who's adversaries.

In fact it is the underside of a young Thornback ray, pushing itself up the inside of an aquarium.

He may be two-faced, but this little kitten is still purr-fect

Cats are known for having nine lives, but a feline born with two faces is practically unheard of.

So you can imagine the shock on Renee Cook's face when her three-year-old cat Amber produced this cute little critter - who was born with two faces.

The little snail species slowly slithering its way into extinction

It is one of the world's tiniest snails - but a giant responsibility for zoo keeper Geoff Read.

He is in charge of half the world's population of the partula rosea after a botched farming project left the snail extinct on its native Pacific islands.

Amazon adventure
Mother Nature had no intention of going easy on Mark Kalch just so he could celebrate his history-making journey down the mighty Amazon River.

Last month the 30-year-old Coolum adventurer and fellow Queenslander Nathan Welch became the fourth ever team to navigate the entire length of the Amazon River, from its snow-capped source at Mt Mismi to where it meets the Atlantic on the Brazilian coast.

It took 155 days but the welcoming party was spartan to say the least.

Joyride burns snake

A carpet python dubbed "Blaze" is recovering from third degree burns at the Gold Coast's Currumbin Wildlife Hospital after joyriding under the hood of a car.

The hospital's senior veterinarian Michael Pyne said the 2.5m-long reptile was discovered wrapped around the car's radiator last Thursday after inadvertently hitching a ride from a goat farm in northern NSW to the Gold Coast.
