Aussie pal Irwin has spot on DVD
Crikey, Steve Irwin's role in Happy Feet has just been expanded. "It is a little tribute to him," Happy Feet director George Miller says of paying homage to his fellow Australian, the late conservationist who rose to TV stardom with his flamboyant personality. One of the extras on the new Happy Feet DVD is a two-minute cartoon, Mumble Meets the Blue Whale. The sequence originally was to be part of the film. Irvin had recorded the voice of an eco-activist albatross who interprets the whale's songs for an inquisitive Mumble. "He did it willingly," Miller remembers of Irwin. "He was an incredibly passionate conservationist. He was definitely an eco-warrior. It wasn't just his rhetoric. He lived it. He would do anything and go anywhere to save an injured animal." Irwin, whom Miller calls "one of the most amazing people who ever graced this planet," would also do anything for the film. So, when his albatross scene was cut, Irwin returned, a month before he died on Sept. 4, 2006, to record the voice of an elephant seal for a different scene that did make the cut. The blue whale sequence, however, was partly animated. "So we decided to take that scene and finish it," Miller says now. "It's not much. But at least it's a little bit of Steve." http://www.edmontonsun.com/Entertainment/Showbiz/2007/03/26/3836057-sun.html |

Thanks for remembering that! Yes, indeed I did! I was so moved at the end ..the message..the thoughts about Steve...I had tears running down my face...and without thinking I was going to do this...I stood up and started clapping! To my wonder and delight..so did the others! It was a magical moment! I felt others too heard the message and it made me feel so wonderful! It is the kind of moment that makes you know that there is goodness and people do care! My heart is smiling just thinking about it!

I have watched a few DVD's in the last couple of days and each one has reminded me of Steve. I could visualise Steve watching them saying 'go get them, mate'.
The DVD's I have watched are Evan Almighty, Garfild, A Tale of two Kitties and Surf's Up. All three conveyed a message of hope and to never give up. As God says in Evan Almighty 'Change one thing and the rest will follow'. |
