Hello,
I bought a new car and had to change the license plate. The screws holding the license plate in were rusted, and one that I tried to take off broke off clean with the body of the car. I put penetrating oil on it, but was wondering how I can get the screw out now. I know about drilling it out, but I don't have a drill. If a drill is the only way to get it out, please give advice as to the procedure and power of the drill I would need. Thanks for your time. |

Hi there Shana,
I would personally use a a 9.6 volt cordless drill & start off with a small drill bit, and then work up through to bigger ones (although not quite as large as the bolt that broke) gradually, until you've drilled it out. Hope this helps. |

You can get screw extracters, quite often they come on tyre valve tools that you can buy for about a pound or two in Halfords or other car accessory shops, they have a left-hand thread & are somewhat conical.
You have to drill a hole in the screw first, about half the size of the screw to be removed, then you screw the extractor in & it will eventually bite into the hole that you drilled in the shank of the screw - keep screwing & the screw will come out. ____________________________________________ "The Early Bird catches the Worm", only goes to prove that the Worm should've stayed in bed!!
