It's an old debate, and one that will continue until the car mutates into something else, but of all the cars ever made which one stands out as the best? And most importantly, why?

Personally, it's the mini. Stood the test of time, practical, economic and full of character.

I'm sorry but a car is horses for courses.

If its a small car them possibly the mini is the greatest ever made.

If its a presitge car then its probably a tour bus for the pop stars they're like private jets although they can'treally be called cars.

But then again neither can a formula 1 car be called a car it looks more like a space fighter with wheels.

For me the car that is propbably the greatest of all time is the Landrover. It has had a tremendous impact on the people of the world first as an instrument of war in the use of the pink panther with the SAS. but specially as the first vehicle of choice for third world aid workers, australian out back doctors etc etc. It's perfect for the job its made for. Its rugged, reliable, easily made, CHEAP TO MAINTAIN and can be repaired simple by your local garage in the bush of Sierra Leone with parts crafted from materials found in the forest.

I rest my case oh and its a british invention. I'd like to see a better selling 4x4 in the world other than the Willy's Jeep.

Best Car ever is the '63 Chevrolet Corvette "Split Window". Corvette, America's only true sports car and for me much better than any European Sports car. Hide-away headlights were used and a coupe body style was added to the lineup. In 1963 only, a center split on the coupe roof flowed through the rear glass creating the famous "Split Window". This was also the first Corvette to use an independent rear suspension, doing away with the solid rear axle

When watching top gear, Jeremy Clarkson was talking about the Bugatti something, whilst driving it. I have to say though, it looked absolutely stunning, but the price range was well out of the consumer's range. I'm not actually sure whether or not this was also a one off as well. But anyway, this Bugatti certainly did look like the "ultimate" supercar though. It was black as well.

The Bugatti Veyron is mint!!! Even if it is 600,000 or 80,000 quid (I dunno which 1 to be honest!!!) And it's also got 1000bhp and goes up to 252mph (OMG!!) But somehow, it seems too expensive to be the best car ever. I mean, when r u ever gonna use that power on da roads?!?! I'd nominate the Mazda RX8 if it wasn't 4 the fuel consuption!!!!!!!!

Cya peeps!!!

Let's bring some structure to the debate.

1. Close your eyes, blank your mind - what is the first car that comes into your head

2. When was the happiest you have ever been in a car

3. you've just won a prize for £25,000 that must be spent on a vehicle what do you buy?

4. Now raised the budget to £50k

5. Now raised the budget to £250k

I agree with a previous poster it has to be the Land Rover.

In answer to Sea Spaniel

1) Land Rover

2) Difficult question. Too many happy memories, depends in what context.Going off camping in the Lake District with my boyfriend in his Vauxhall Viva (showing my age!). Driving my first Range Rover for the first time, driving off-road in my Land Rover...lots of things really !!
3)25K to spend on a car? Hmmm... A mid-range Land Rover Defender 90, and spend the rest on getting rid of the diesel and putting a big V8 in plus an LPG tank.

3) 50K to spend? Easy - A Range Rover

4) 250 K ? Not really into sports cars but I guess I wouldn't say no to a Aston and a Morgan.

the best car ever made?

Easy,
It's the one that does not break down, uses hardly any fuel
Has a very low insurance group
Does not frost up on cold mornings
Will start first time - every time, has room for anything you would want to put in the boot...

It's the one that you can sell for more than you paid for it.

It does not exist....

Although I do like my 53 focus 1.6 zetec in a nice silver colour, why? Because it's mine! And it only cost £4500, each to your own eh?
