Hi..

Ive got a bit of a problem with my 1.2 fiat punto..year 2000.

I took the kids to gullivers world for bonfire night and had to queue in a snail slow pace line of 500 cars on the way out.. this heated my little punto up quite a bit i think..
So.. i finally got out the queue and was heading home at speed for about 10 mins when the was a bad smell of burning rubber.. i drove on for a min or two wondering if it was coming from me? until the car started to lose power and make a clicky sound. not like tappets, more like something had come loose. i pulled over straigt away and got the car towed back the next day. i checked the oil levels the next morning and they were fine as was the water.. but after taking the car for a short run to asda i noticed the inlet hose to the radiator was hot yet the outlet wasnt.. water pump?? air lock?? i have phoined a mechanic freind who says it may be the cylinder head? but would this stop the water pump circulating properly?? i plan to check the water pump properly in the morning when it gets light but would like a few opinions to see if im wasting my time..
Thanks for reading for this long!!

Smiler

Hi i own a fiat punto 55 1996 1.1 fuel injection, and im having the same problem (not same year punto as yours tho) i was traveling from my home to work and suddenly a red light come up on dashboard and the car made a funny clicking noise every time i tried to accelerate on the way i turned the heater on and smoke just came out of the air vents and filled the car with smoke i pulled over, there was smoke every where by this time, i checked the next day and when started water was coming from somewhere at the bottom of the engine i topped it up but within half an hour it was empty again I have not drove the car since any ideas what has happened?

Thanks Smiler

hiya, my punto has done exactly thr same and i ended up having to be towed home! the mechanic said it was my water pump that had gone. The water wasjust going in then coming straight back out.So it sounds like it might be your water pump as well... the mechanic said its not that expensive to get repaired but its just such a pain as now i cant get it to a garage as i cannot drive it Confused

hi just got mine repaired in a local garage. i must point out that i had a couple of other things that resulted in the waterpump going which are worth checking on your car/s

1: the belts on my car had to be replaced

2: i had to have a new head gasket

3: obviously a new water pump

4: oil was leaking out of the head gasket

5: holes in radiator

i also have another niggly problem which wont go away when the car has been going along for about 10 mins i turn the heater on and it mists up my windscreen (obviously very dangerous as i cannot see) i cant figure it out, has the fan gone? (im getting fed up at this point lol) anyways hope some one can figure that one out Confused

Thanks Smiler

ps: all that in the end came to a lovley sum of £300 (what a kick in the backside b4 xmas Mad)
