Hello,
I am hoping that you would be kind enough to help me with a question. I would like to use 4 LED's for a solar powered lamp that I am building. Would you be able to tell me exactly what kind of rechargeable batteries I would need for the 4 LEDs and if I need resistors? Is it necessary to have a pcb board for this project? And finally, maybe it's a longshot but does anyone know if there was a kit available for an outdoor solar lamp? Using the solar path lights just wouldn't provide enough light in the lamp.
Thanks in advance.

You say a path light will not be bright enough. If that is the case give up the project. Modern Path lights are as bright as you will get. You say you want to use 4 LED's even with modern Ultra bright White LED's you will need more than 4 to get get the best illumination. Have a good look in Home Depot, they are similar to B&Q here in the UK. I got a very good lamp at B&Q it had multiple LED's and is as bright as you will get.
To answer the technical side of your question.Yes you will need to use a resistor to limit the current in the circuit. You dont need a Printed circuit board, however you will find it is easier to construct a stable and reliable circuit using a piece of Veroboard I dont know what you call it in the USA. It is a piece of circuit board with strips of copper in parallel lines and pre drilled down the leingth of the copper. If you want a kit have a look in Radio Shack.
You will find that the cost of the components will be more than the cost of one from a DIY Shed. Look at the Web site for B&Q in the UK the URL is WWW.diy.com give them a try
When it comes to the bettery use Lithium Mercury Hydride with the larger capacity . You will have to balance the number of LAD's you wish to use against the size of the Photo cell to charge the battery and the capacity of the Battery.
Good luck
Good luck
