wait, what happened to these statements?
“The fact is – never been convicted of a crime.” - Paul Watson, Worldfest 2006 “I’ve got no criminal record.” - Paul Watson Interview, September 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzKZCgn8bPA Are these lies? OMG why do people believe in lies and an organization with a liar?! |

That's true. He has long arrest record but no trials on the charges. Therefore: no convictions
Again true. Criminal records come as a result of convictions, not arrests.
Great video. Here's part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...fndU&feature=channel
Mainly because he is not lying. The tenet is "innocent until proven guilty" and he has never been proven guilty. He has been held in jail as shown above but he has never gone to trial. "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." - Mark Twain |

Mainly because he is not lying. The tenet is "innocent until proven guilty" and he has never been proven guilty. He has been held in jail as shown above but he has never gone to trial. ___________________________________________ 1979: An S.S. ship rams the whaling ship "Sierra". 1980: The "Sierra" is sunk in Lisbon harbor. S.S. claims responsibility. 1981: The S.S. claims to have sunk two whaling vessels, "Ilsa I" and "Ilsa II". 1986: S.S. activists ordered to leave Faroese waters during whale harvest. Ignoring the order, Faroese police try to board the S.S. S.S. crew fires a line rifle and throw signal flares at police dingy. Petrol was poured into the water around the dingies and flares were used in what was preceived by the police to be an attempt to set the petrol on fire. 1986: The S.S. claims responsbility for the sinking of two Icelandic veseels and damage performed against an Icelandic whaling station. 1988: Paul Watson demands to be taken into custody in Iceland for the sinking which took place in 1986. He later recants his confession. 1991: A U.S. fisherman reports his vessel being rammed by an S.S. vessel. 1992: The S.S. makes three failed attempts at ramming Costa Rica fishing vessels. 1993: Paul Watson, captaining the S.S. vessel "Edward Abby", orders his crew to open fire on a Japanese fishing veseel. The crew refuses. The encounter can be seen in the 1993 documentary "Ocean Rider - Defenders of the Wild". 1993: The S.S. claims to have sunk 8 vessels and rammed and/or damaged 6 others. 1997: Paul Watson convicted in absentia in Norway and imprisoned in Netherlands for scuttling of a whaling vessel and ramming of a Norweigan coast guard vessel. 2002: Arrest warrent issued in Costa Rica for Paul Watson for attempted murder and destruction or property resulting from an altercation with a Costa Rican fishing vessel. 2002: "We should never feel like we're going too far in breaking the law" - Paul Watson, Animal Rights convention 2002 2008: The S.S. vessel "Farley Mowat" is confiscated and two members of the crew arrested. 2009: Two S.S. crew convincted in Canada for their 2008 crimes.Peter Hammersdadt and Capt. of the Farley Mowat were charged and convicted and fine $45,000. You don't need to be at a trial to be convicted in most countries. Paul lies and so do you nbrownfzi. 1997: Paul Watson convicted in absentia in Norway and imprisoned in Netherlands for scuttling of a whaling vessel and ramming of a Norweigan coast guard vessel. And the "innocent until proven guilty" only applies in a couple of countries like the US and very few others. The man is a criminal. Whatsmore he is a felon. Attempted murder (they don't issue a warrant without charges) and sinking ships are felonies. 1993: The S.S. claims to have sunk 8 vessels and rammed and/or damaged 6 others. He has admitted this, he has been charged with a few and convicted. "Guilty, guilty, guilty and proud of it!" - Paul Waton, July 3, 2009 on the conviction of two Sea Shepherd crew in Canada for illegal interference with the seal hunt. And yes nbrownfzi I read it, not him. 1991: Scott Trimmingham, president of Sea Shepherd quits in protest. “We had rules about not hurting anyone, about not using weapons. I left because those rules and that philosophy seems to be changing,” he said to “Outside” magazine (Sept. 1991). Paul Watson admits that there are arms on board “Sea Shepherd”. “We confront dangerous people. As the captain, it is my responsibility to protect the lives of my crew ... Therefore, I have prepared myself for the possibility of defending my crew in a situation that could go never occur, but if it does I will use firearms to first intimidate and then to defend,” said Watson to the Los Angeles Free Weekly (April 24, 1992). The charges were brought on whose behalf? Oh yeah. The pirate whalers.
Once he got to Norway they let him go. Perhaps they didn't want him appealing the decision and introducing his side of the case. I wonder why? Paul Watson has been hoping for a trial to show all his evidence.
The attempted murder charges concerned the following:
The charges were re-opened by a corrupt judge and prosecutor who were obviusly paid off by the Costa Rican fishing industry. The evidence provided on the initial investigation clearly showed the Varadero was poaching in Guatemala's EEZ.
He is committed to a course of intervention. Go SSCS!!!
I find it interesting that the bail was put up by Farley Mowat on behalf of the two SSCS crew. The SSCS crew were then deported permanently. Oh yeah, the SSCS members were not intervening in the seal hunt, only documenting it. Isn't that what you want them to do in the southern ocean? Trying to have it both ways?
He's talking about defending his ship. Every captain has a right to do that.

I classify that immature and childish statement as the pot calling the kettle black.
Google it Ophi/OpJob/Snake-boy.
I can post in as many threads as I choose. You have posted in far more threads than I. Quit your pathetic whining and get over it.
You are very entertaining because you are an idiot.

Captain |
Of course he's going to get charged with SOMETHING. I mean those countries don't like him interfering with their whaling and what not. So yeah, they'll figure out some way to try to charge him. No surprise there really.
And anything that you that's physical is considered violent for some reason. So what, there is nothing physical you can do? You just have to sit there? I mean, they've never killed anyone so I mean, they can't really be violent can they? How is something that violent if there is no bloodshed? So yeah, I don't really have much of a problem with them....I don't like violence but I don't find that stuff to be all that violent really. The whalers throw stuff at them too anyway. Anyway, I see the charges and know they're probably real but eh, it makes sense that they'd try to charge the crew with something. |

Ophidian, don't go into one just because someone argues against your stance. This isn't a pinboard for you to paste up opinions and then sit back and bask in your self righteousness. What nbrownfzi did was politely discuss/debate the points you raised. For you to revert to name calling undermines your whole argument as you fall into the category of 'can dish it out but can't take it'. For the record I think P. Watson is an idiot but I despise what the Japanese are doing. That's my opinion but strangely not everybody agrees with me. I can live with that. I might try and educate and inform others of why I feel like that but I'll do it in a constructive and respectful way. |
