If talking about the PP9 size, hundreds of them, in parallel. They can supply maybe a couple of hundred milliamps. A starter wants over 100 amps. The fact that they are only 9 volts as opposed to 12 doesn't help, but on some cars will not be vital. Doubling the bank up in series will give 18 volts, which will likely destroy some of the more vital bits of the cars electronics.

The other thing to remember is that as soon as the car has started it no longer requires the battery to power it's electrical circuits. It will use the alternater.

And you have think about the fact, that the generator will charge the batteries. Normal 9V Batteries will then explode after a longer time. In addition to that it is very hot in the motor room so there are two reasons why the batteries can explode!

That's assuming that the electronic ignition will work properly at the reduced voltage - it probably won't. ____________________________________________ "The Early Bird catches the Worm", only goes to prove that the Worm should've stayed in bed!!
