Hi all. I have just watched the latest episode of Mythbusters that features a story about SKS rifles being set off by the car's sound system. After testing this myth, they feel it is busted. I disagree because of the methodology of testing. They tested it by playing a sound clip that tests the limits of the sound system - driving the speakers at the maximum all the time. When one plays music on a sound system, the speakers are never at maximum all the time, and I feel they should have tested it using music as the beat of the music could have enough vibration to set off the rifles. Does anybody else agree with me on this subject?

Couldn't agree more, however it'd never happen as I doubt they'l pay the licensing fees to use certain music tracks.
Which is a shame, as I felt it would make a difference, had the audio alternated from high to soft rapidly, as opposed to giving it full force from the start. |

Haven't seen the episode, and don't know where the myth originated. I have, on the other hand, handled SKS carbines, which use a simple but reliable mechanism - you can hit virtually any part of the weapon bar the trigger with a hammer and not get it to go off - I can't seriously believe music, of any kind or volume, would do it.
