Will a over heated light bulb cause explosion ?

Depends.
If the bulb is in an explosive atmosphere and the surface exceeds the flashpoint temperature, yes.
Otherwise, the only thing getting hot is the filament, and when that overheats, it melts, preventing any further heating. You then have a piece of glass with some metal inside it.

I suppose it depends on what type of bulb you are talking about, florescent (cool), plain old incandescent (hot), Metal Halide (very hot!)


These folk were none to happy then a hot bulb set fire to the curtains!
