In the past, Mythbusters did the myth can you beat a radar gun, which unfortunately failed as I would have loved to see it happen, but when I was watching that episode I had an extreme idea that could make a car beat a Radar gun.
I'm an Aircraft fanatic and seeing that episode gave me an idea that you could make a stealth car based on the F-117 Nighthawk (Stealth Fighter).

This aircraft is not made with any round edges; all the edges and faces are flat and angled to reflect the radar beam away from the aircraft to another direction.
The flat edges are not just what help it to go stealth, there is a resin that the aircraft is covered in to help the reflecting process which is total classified unfortunately, but anything that would help a radar beam to be reflected would do.
Now if you was some how was able to convert a normal car (smaller the better) to have a flat edges and angled based on the F117 and covered in a resin that would help radar reflection, I think that you could beat a radar gun, plus it would look cool Roll Eyes

And everyone please post up your thoughts on this idea.

Seeing as the stealth fighter cost millions, possibly billions, of dollars in black funding, and years of research, I'm assuming you'd need someone with a lot of spare time and money or an absolute genius with an utterly brilliant imagination to get it together.

Plus, the F117 still has the radar signature of a bird, so I dunno if the radar gun would still pick up a car...

NB: I haven't looked into it that much, they're simply my first thoughts...

Yeah the price is very high, but forget about the high tech materials and advanced systems and just think that if a car that is shaped out similar to the concept of the F117 , no military programs to help it, just the shape to see if that would help.

I'm pretty sure something similar was tried on that secret weapons of war or whatever it was called with dick strawbridge and his amazing mustache. If i remember right they had a boat and used the same technique described with hard angles and such. I think they had a load of those triangular foam things like they use in echoless rooms. One of them sat in a radar station and the other moved the boat in a random course, the end result was that the radar guys barely saw anything. I think a stealth car would be pretty cool and If you can get the right materials, price shouldn't be too high Smiler

As the expected angle of a radar gun is known, i.e. to the front then it should be possible to design something that doesn't bounce the radar back towards the detector. There will always be somesort of bounced signal back but there is bound to be some sort of threshold. If you can get below this then it is possible.

one of the 1970's Lamboghini's with a very angular bonnet looks just the job.

I think I have seen Dick Strawbridge on Scrapheap Challenge but never seen Secret Weapons unfortunately.
I do agree with you though EjutNick, with the right materials I recon you can do it, without going over priced, and that’s a good idea using them triangle things, never thought of that lol.
