I dont think this can be seen as a myth. But since it is an interesting topic ill discuss it.
First of all, 2 wrongs don't make a right is an opinion and it is said by the one on whom your revenge is to be upon. It is but an evasive tactic if you ask me....I think that everyone deserves a right to have his revenge if he feels that it will make him feel righteous and that his spirit will be at ease. I try to follow the code of Bushido and I personaly would enjoy to avenge the things lost.after all 'eye for an Eye, tooth for a tooth' and after all it is Karma and what goes around comes around...i guess.... |

well if two wrongs dont make a right then the whole discipline system inside every school in the world is wrong because if a child does something wrong then he will get punished and it is wrong to punish people and seeing that schools are meant to make people Right and good then two wrongs must make a right

Why is punishing someone wrong? How else can you meaningfully teach them that they've done wrong? That doesn't mean that I necessarily agree with "an eye for an eye - a tooth for a tooth", as Gandhi said, "eventually you have a world full of eyeless, toothless people.", or words to that effect. Punishment should not be purely for revenge, but as a means of teaching the difference between "right" & "wrong". ____________________________________________ "The Early Bird catches the Worm", only goes to prove that the Worm should've stayed in bed!! I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money. There's room for all God's creatures. Right next to the mashed potatoes. Health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. |

I thought that the "eye for an eye" was about compensation amounts and not revenge.

Nope, it's a Biblical quotation suggesting that revenge should be metered out accordingly, ie. if someone hurts you by a certain amount (breaks your leg for example) then you break their leg in revenge. Then the Bible goes on to say (in a different section - don't ask me where exactly) that punishment should only be carried out by God ("Justice is Mine", sayeth the Lord), the Bible & all other "Holy Works" are full of contradictions & inconsistencies like that.
