Where is the safest place to be in a lightning storm? Is a car the safest place to be or is the metal it's made of more likely to attract the lightning?

While the metal may attract the lightning, the tires are made of rubber, so it's not a particularly easy earthing for any lightning striking the car.
I'd say being in a car or house is far safer than standing out in the street or leaning against a tree, simply because unless you're unlucky enough to be touching the car exterior or switching a light off in the house, there's no reason for the lightning to travel through your body on its way to the ground. |

I believe you are safest in the car due to the rubber tyres as already outlined by WelshBoyo1989.
Unless of course the lightening hits a tree which then topples over and smacks your car...then it wouldn't be too safe |

A car is the safest place as the vehicle forms what is called a faraday cage. The Electrical energy surrounds the car but doesn't enter it.
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage for details |
