OK here goes - My girlfriend is a hairdresser and swears blind that hairs cut during a haircut can embed in another person. I'm not sure if she just means spike in and be uncomfortable or actually continue growing but it sounds like guff to me.
Another she swears is true is that hair with damaged (split) ends will grow slower than hair regularly trimmed - again I say no way.
And last but not least - if you don't wash your hair for 6 months it cleans itself Eeker .

Women mad or what?

rgularly trimmmed hair will indeed grow much faster and thicker than neglected hair.

as for embedded hair? it would take some force to get a hair into your skin, and if its beencut off, there is no chance of it growing at all.

and six month self cleaning hair? cant see it working myself.

I don't see why this would be the case - as a hair has no circulatory components the behaviour of the root should have no relation to the state of the hair end.

I have heard of stories where dog hairs have worked their way into the soles of peoples feet, and because they are barbed, it can be very painful... but perhaps this is another myth in itself

I do kinda feel that regularly trimmed hair grow faster than neglected hair.
Perhaps the lost of hairlength is able to stimulate the tissues surrounding root and thus stimulate hair growth.
