According to a google I did a while back to get information about getting rid of some unwanted residents, cheese does next to nothing in a trap. Bread paste works better, peanut butter is irresistible. I laid out two traps, one with peanut butter, one with cheese. The cheese one was consistently ignored. The peanut butter got one per night. The only time the cheese one scored it looked like the mouse was walking over it to get to the peanut butter.
